Questions & Answers

Frequently Asked

Everything you might be wondering before your first breathwork session. If you have a question that isn't here, I'd love to hear from you.

Before Booking

What can breathwork help with?

Breathwork can support many different intentions, and no two journeys look exactly the same. Whether you're navigating stress, anxiety, burnout, grief, life transitions, limiting beliefs, emotional healing, or simply feeling called to reconnect with yourself, breathwork creates space to discover what your body may be ready to reveal and what your inner world may be inviting you to explore.

Many people also come to deepen self-awareness, strengthen their relationship with themselves and others, cultivate greater self-trust, reconnect with parts of themselves they've lost touch with, gain clarity around the next chapter of their lives, or create more space for joy, creativity, and a deeper sense of aliveness. Often, it's not about fixing something, but creating the space to listen more deeply to yourself.

Your intentions help guide our work together while allowing space for your body to reveal what it's ready to explore. Together, we'll follow what feels most supportive for you, honoring the wisdom of your body and trusting the process as it unfolds.

How do I know if breathwork is right for me?

Every client begins by completing a confidential intake form so we can ensure breathwork is appropriate for you and better understand how I can best support your journey. If you're considering one of the ongoing mentorship offerings, you're also welcome to schedule a complimentary 30-minute discovery call to connect, discuss your goals, and explore whether working together feels like the right fit for you.

What if I don't know what my intention is?

"I know I want something to change, but I don't know what."

If that thought has crossed your mind, you're not alone. Many people come to breathwork with a feeling that something isn't quite aligned, even if they can't put it into words.

You don't need to have everything figured out before you arrive. Sometimes your intention is simply a willingness to show up, become more present, reconnect with yourself, or stay open to whatever is ready to be explored. We'll take time at the beginning of your session to help you connect with what feels most meaningful for you.

Your intention doesn't have to be perfect or fully formed. It simply gives us a place to begin. From there, we'll remain open to what unfolds, trusting that your body often holds the wisdom your mind hasn't yet put into words.

Do I need any prior experience with breathwork?

Not at all. Whether this is your very first breathwork experience or you've practiced before, you'll be gently guided every step of the way. There is nothing you need to know or prepare beyond simply showing up with an open mind and a willingness to stay curious.

The Experience

What happens during a breathwork session?

Every session is thoughtfully tailored to you, your intentions, and where you are in your journey. While every experience is unique, we'll move through a thoughtful guided process that includes conversation, breathwork, and integration, creating space for whatever you're ready to explore. We'll begin with a conversation to explore what has brought you here, clarify your intentions, and answer any questions you may have. From there, I'll guide you through grounding practices before leading you through the breathwork journey. Afterwards, we'll take time to integrate your experience, reflect on any insights that arose, and explore how they can be meaningfully carried into your everyday life.

Throughout the session, my role is to guide and support you while honoring your pace, your choice, and your experience. You'll never be asked to do anything that doesn't feel right for you, and consent remains an important part of every session.

What if I'm nervous?

Feeling nervous before your first session is completely normal. In fact, many people do. Trying something new, especially when it involves slowing down and turning inward, can naturally bring up uncertainty.

We'll begin by taking the time to talk through any questions or concerns you may have before we begin. Nothing is rushed, and we'll move at a pace that feels supportive for you. You never have to share anything you're not ready or comfortable sharing, and many people are surprised to discover they can have a deeply meaningful experience without feeling pressure to explain everything.

Throughout the session, you're always welcome to communicate what you're experiencing, ask questions, take a break, or let me know what you need. My role is to create a space where you feel safe, supported, and empowered to explore at a pace that honors your nervous system and your journey. I'll gently guide you through the experience with compassion and intention, creating the conditions for you to meet yourself with curiosity, courage, and compassion while learning to trust the wisdom already within you.

What if I become emotional?

Emotions are a natural part of being human, and breathwork creates space for them to be felt, processed, and expressed. You may experience joy, gratitude, love, peace, sadness, grief, relief, or emotions you can't quite put into words. Every emotion is welcome.

There is no expectation that you'll feel any particular emotion, and no experience is more meaningful than another. You never need to apologize for your experience or hold anything back to make others comfortable. This is a safe, compassionate space where you're invited to simply meet whatever arises, supported with presence, care, and respect throughout.

Will I lose control during the session?

No. You remain in control throughout the entire experience. You're always welcome to slow down, pause, or rest whenever you need. Your comfort, choice, and autonomy are always respected, and any hands-on support is offered only with your knowledge and consent.

What if I don't feel anything?

Every experience is different. Some sessions feel profound, while others feel subtle. Neither is better than the other. Sometimes the most meaningful shifts happen quietly, or continue unfolding in the hours and days that follow.

Practical Questions

How should I prepare for my session?

Wear comfortable clothing that allows you to breathe and move freely. I recommend avoiding a heavy meal within two hours of your session, as a full stomach can make deeper breathing feel less comfortable. Staying hydrated and giving yourself a little extra time before and after your session can also help you arrive more present and allow space to gently integrate your experience afterwards.

For both in-person and virtual sessions, I recommend having water, tissues, and a journal (or paper and pen) nearby. These can help you stay comfortable throughout your experience and give you a place to capture any reflections or insights that emerge afterwards.

If you're joining virtually, choose a quiet, comfortable space where you feel safe, relaxed, and free from distractions. If possible, allow fresh air into the room to create an environment that feels peaceful and grounding. Have a yoga mat, a blanket on the floor or bed, or another comfortable place to lie down where you have enough space to move freely, avoiding confined or elevated spaces.

You'll also need a phone, tablet, or laptop with Zoom installed. Before we begin, make sure your device is charged (or plugged in) and positioned so I can clearly see you throughout the session while allowing you to remain comfortable and move as naturally as needed. It's also helpful to silence notifications or turn on Do Not Disturb before we begin so you don't have calls or texts interrupting while you're immersed in your experience.

If you'd like to use a pillow, I recommend choosing a thin one so your head and neck can remain in a comfortable, neutral position throughout the session. Having a folded blanket or a couple of pillows nearby can also be helpful, allowing you to stay comfortable and supported if you feel called to move, adjust your position, or express emotions that arise during the experience.

If you have them, I also recommend using headphones and wearing an eye mask. Together, they can help you settle more deeply into the experience by reducing distractions and allowing you to become more immersed in the music, my guidance, and your own inner world.

To begin connecting with your breath before your session, I also recommend exploring the Owaken Daily Practice, available on YouTube or through the Owaken app (they offer a free trial for the app). It's a gentle way to become more familiar with conscious breathing, cultivate a deeper connection with yourself and your own inner guidance, and arrive feeling more connected to your breath.

Can breathwork be done virtually?

Yes. All private 1:1 sessions are available both virtually via Zoom and in person.

Many people are surprised by how meaningful and impactful virtual breathwork can be. Even through a screen, you'll receive the same personalized guidance, support, and intentional space to explore your experience. With the use of headphones, carefully selected music, and live guidance throughout the session, virtual breathwork can be just as immersive and deeply meaningful for many people. The most important part isn't where you are, it's creating the environment where you feel comfortable, present, and able to fully engage in the process.

Is breathwork a replacement for therapy or medical care?

No. Breathwork is a complementary wellness practice and is not a substitute for medical care, psychotherapy, or mental health treatment. If you're currently working with a healthcare provider or mental health professional, breathwork can often complement that work with their guidance.

How often should I book?

There isn't a one-size-fits-all answer. Some people benefit from occasional sessions, while others feel supported by meeting consistently through ongoing mentorship. Together, we can determine what feels most aligned with your goals and intentions.
